DR Mission Team’s “Sammy Awards” Feeds and Entertains 1,000+
First Baptist’s Dominican Republic Mission Team held the Second Annual “Sammy Awards” as part of its annual dinner, show, and auction before over 1,000 members of the community on March 31 at Sheehan High School in Wallingford. The event raised over $30,000 to support the efforts of 100 local volunteers that will travel to La Romana, DR, this summer to help the very poor. The emotional highlight of the evening took place during a tribute to David McClain, a local man stricken with ALS for the last ten years and yet spends his days celebrating and sharing his love for the Lord and faith in Jesus as His Savior. David and his wife, Donna, were surprised when the DR Mission Team introduced all in attendance to the “David and Donna McClain House”, to be built for a poor family in Batey 50 this summer by the DR Mission Team.
Thank you to all who volunteered their time and talents, prayed, supported, donated and attended. More information may be found at drmissionteam.org.
